Subject: Keeping Cool and Getting Ready for Summer NNN Friday Lunches
From: Northwest Neighbors Network

Hello NNN members, friends, and families:
Welcome to our latest update on keeping connected and informed as we look forward to Washington State's full reopening.
  • Keeping Your Cool in the Summer Heat
  • NNN Friday Lunches Return
  • NNN Social Committee Launching
  • Local Activities

Beat the Heat

How Do You Plan to Keep Cool this Summer?

  • Cover windows that receive morning or afternoon sun.
  • Stay indoors and in an air-conditioned environment as much as possible unless you have a high tolerance for heat.
  • Drink plenty of fluids but avoid beverages that contain alcohol, caffeine, or high sugar.
  • Eat more frequently but make sure meals are balanced and light.
  • Check frequently on people who may need help. If you need help, ask family, friends or neighbors to check in with you.
  • Make sure pets have plenty of water.
  • Salt tablets should only be taken if specified by your doctor.
  • If you take prescription diuretics, antihistamines, mood-altering or antispasmodic drugs, check with a doctor about the effects of sun and heat exposure.

Let’s Do Lunch!

Lunch and Conversation social time with NNN is coming back! We are excited about summer’s approach, and the continued good news from the CDC and Washington Department of Health about gathering safely again. Please mark your calendars for these lunch and conversation activities coming soon. The NNN Social Committee is ready for lunches and will be planning more activities this year! Have an activity in mind that you'd like to see? Email us at: social@northwestneighborsnetwork.org

Lunch is open to the public and starts at 1:00 p.m. No need to register in advance.

We each pay for our own food and drink.

Speaking of the NNN Social Committee …. We have a new email address for anyone who wants to submit ideas or ask questions to the Social Committee. This is the best place to send your feedback about social events or to raise your hand to offer to host an activity. Just write to social@northwestneighborsnetwork.org and someone will get back to you.

Want to Take Part in the Social Committee? Do you enjoy community building? Organizing or hosting events?  NNN is looking for a few volunteers who are willing to meet one time each month to discuss ideas for social events, review our progress, and be willing to offer hands-on support to those hosting NNN social events. Volunteers on the Social Committee can also help search and arrange for new opportunities, host an activity themselves, help us keep members and the community informed about upcoming events and activities and help us with data tracking.  Can we count on you? Please send your interest to social@northwestneighborsnetwork.org. We can’t be social without YOU!

Local Activities
As the State guidelines are changing, it's great to get back to some events we've been missing.

The Edmonds Center for the Arts is sponsoring its first-ever Spotlight Summer Series, kicking off on June 24, 2021. This series of nine events can be experienced via livestream from the location of your choice, in-person in ECA’s theater (open at limited capacity with mask and distancing requirements), or in-person in ECA’s parking lot. Tickets range from $15 to $45 and are on sale now. Edmonds Center for the Arts info

Take Me Out to the Ballgame...Mariners To Restore Full Seating With 'Grand Reopening' July 2
T-Mobile Park will return to full capacity on July 2, dropping social distancing requirements and vaccinated-only sections.
The M's will face the Texas Rangers. The Grand Reopening Night celebration includes a few ticket specials, including center field bleacher seats for just $4 and main level seats priced at $17.76 — a nod to Independence Day. For the first time since September 2019, July 2 will also mark the return of a postgame fireworks show.

Lake Forest Park Farmer's Market

The 2021 season runs every Sunday, 10 AM to 2 PM, from May 9th to October 17th. Get the latest fresh, organic produce and more. Perhaps meet up with other NNN members at the market for brunch or lunch? LFP Farmers Market Info

Did you see the new bridge over Interstate 5? This week, the southbound Interstate 5 portion of the Northgate pedestrian and bicycle bridge was installed. The northbound half was installed last weekend. The bridge connects Northgate Mall to North Seattle Community College. (Photo by David Carlos)
