Robin and Her Dad
Our Newest Board Member, Robin Fleming, shares:
I’m thrilled to have recently joined the Board of Northwest Neighbors Network.  As a nurse, this organization strongly appeals to my sense of investing in people by preventing illness and promoting health.  Research has shown that adults who are able to age safely in their own homes and who have social networks to fend off isolation live longer, enjoy better health, and remain more financially solvent.

Thanks to the committed volunteers at NNN, and the members who inspire us, this growing organization is improving lives in our communities and creating intergenerational partnerships that enrich our region.

Donations are being matched up to $2500, and we are almost there. PLUS, another generous donor has offered an ADDITIONAL $2500 match! Please join me in Giving Big now through May 5th to strengthen our reach!

Rhubarb
Does Your Garden Area Need a Little Help from a Friendly Volunteer?
Who's Ready for Strawberry Rhubarb Pie?

This volunteer's garden needs a little attention, and surely it's not the only one! Your NNN volunteers are ready to come by and do a little garden support to get us all outdoors and enjoying everything that's sprouting in the garden. (Well, we're not enjoying the pollen and the weeds, but everything else, YES!)

Maybe it's time to get your early crops planted? Grab your pea, lettuce, and broccoli seeds, and let's get planting!

Yes, we can take you to your favorite garden store for shopping, and we can help plant, prune, etc.

Email or call your services team to request volunteer support.

Grab Your Shoes, Let's Walk!
Now that CDC guidelines are sounding more promising, and so many of us are fully vaccinated, it's time to join your NNN community on one (or more) of our weekly walks!

We heard you would like an earlier walk time for our Lake Forest Park walk, so we shifted the time to earlier in the day. Meet up at 10:30 AM Monday at Horizon View Park, and we'll catch up as we walk from 10:30-11:30. Together, we'll explore "the highest point in Lake Forest Park."

2020 census growth chart
Census Results Released This Week
The 2020 Census shows that the resident population of the United States, including the 50 states and the District of Columbia, was 331,449,281 as of April 1, 2020, an increase of 7.4% since the 2010 Census. Does that make you feel more or less crowded? Well, if the trend from the last ten years continues, we're not growing all that quickly.

The Washington Post reports that the United States’ population growth slowed in the past 10 years to its lowest rate since the 1930s, according to data released Monday by the U.S. Census Bureau.

The growth increase of 7.4 percent between 2010 and 2020 is the second-slowest rate of expansion since the government began taking a census in 1790. In the 1930s, the decade with the slowest population growth, the rate was 7.3 percent.

Unlike the slowdown of the Great Depression, which was a blip followed by a boom, the slowdown this time is part of a longer-term trend, tied to the aging of the country’s white population, decreased fertility rates and lagging immigration.
