Hello Neighbors!

As we strive to fulfill our mission and serve the needs of our community, the importance of our volunteers cannot be overstated. So, I want to dedicate this month’s message to our volunteers. Your passion, dedication, and hard work have enabled us to achieve remarkable milestones. This February, we celebrated our 6th anniversary of service - a testament to your enduring impact and the vitality of our community.

From organizing and running events to providing one-on-one support, you embody the spirit of generosity and compassion. It is your contributions that enable us to make tangible differences in the lives of our community members.

We appreciate the vital role you serve, and in kind, we always strive to create an environment where each of you know you are valued and appreciated. Early in March, please be on the lookout for an opportunity to give us direct feedback about your experience as a volunteer and share your ideas with us so we can better serve you. You will receive a brief survey via email. I ask that you take a few moments to provide your input - it is important to us.

I have another request. This year, as we look towards helping more people, we are going to need more people like you! I encourage each of you to amplify your impact by engaging your friends, family, and colleagues to volunteer with us. Sharing your personal invitation and your positive experiences can inspire others to contribute their time and skills. Together we can address the growing needs of our community and have a broader reach into our neighborhoods.

Again, thank you for being the driving force and spirit of our organization. Your dedication is my inspiration.
--- Mahyar

Growing up on a farm in rural Indiana, five miles from the nearest town, Lee Gresko says, “Families were strict. I learned about respect and responsibility. I always colored within the lines.” Her thirst for adventure came later. Over the years, she has uprooted several times from places, relationships and jobs, moving ahead fearlessly when it was time for the next chapter.

After high school, she left Indiana for nursing school in Chicago. There she grew and worked for the next 17 years, also getting married, having a son, and then going through a divorce. At that point, seeking adventure, Lee and a friend threw darts at a map and decamped-children in tow-to Kalispell, Montana.
Lee In Action During a Meeting Break

Lee had an interesting 14 months there, but restlessness began to set in. Going back east was not an option, so she headed to what sounded like an interesting place-Seattle. She arrived in Seattle in 1981, broke and jobless.  “As I was driving over Snoqualmie Pass, I knew I was home. My heart told me so.” Her nursing license took months to transfer over from Illinois. She worked at odd jobs to get by until she could return to her field of work. She has since worked in nursing, counseled those recovering from substance addictions, and in juvenile detention facilities.

At 43 years of age, she decided to ride motorcycles-just for a change. Her career officially ended in 2013 with retirement. Since then, she has filled her time with CERT, the Red Cross, community, social justice involvement, and a bit of reading and reflection.

A few years ago, at the age of 72, good sense set in. Lee decided to give up her motorcycle riding. But the loss of those wheels has not slowed her down. She remains as busy as the proverbial bee on a tomato patch. As a NNN Board member, Lee helps to onboard new members. She finds this task to be enjoyable and rewarding. She takes on many service requests from members with her typical zeal and passion.

Lee loves this place, it’s mountains, forests, rivers and oceans, and the people. She continues to espouse that there is so much to do and to learn in this brief span of life which we have been given. She firmly believes in the aging-in-home concept, and the value of NNN in our community, and looks ahead to the day when she will depend on the help of other NNN members. Personally, I don’t see that day arising anytime soon.
